Marin Temporary Power

Permitted construction power, generators, lighting, cooling, cameras and site internet for builders and owners across Marin County.

Construction power and site gear for Marin jobs

Marin Temporary Power is a licensed C-10 electrical contractor working out of San Rafael. Most calls start with a temp pole. We size the service from 100A up to 400A, pull the electrical permit with the town or the county, open the temp service application at PG&E, and meet the inspector for the green tag. When the permanent service is live, we come back and take it all out. Our page on metered temp services from 100 to 400 amps walks through each step.

Power is only part of what a site needs. Crews want internet in the trailer, so we run cellular and satellite internet for builders with mesh coverage across the lot. Empty sites at night attract thieves, and our solar and pole-mounted security cameras send motion alerts and keep a timelapse of the build.

Marin also brings PSPS shutoffs, short winter days and the odd heat wave. We rent towable diesel and portable gas generators with fuel delivery, LED, solar and balloon light towers for night and winter work, and spot coolers and jobsite heaters for trailers, drywall, flooring and electrical rooms.

Six services for a working site

Each service can stand alone, but most Marin jobs use two or three of them together. A remodel in Mill Valley might need a 100A pole and a backup generator, while a Novato commercial shell runs three-phase power, light towers and a camera trailer at the same time.

Metered temporary services from 100A to 400A, set on hillside, bayfront and infill lots, with the electrical permit, PG&E request and inspection handled for you.

Bonded cellular and satellite internet with mesh coverage across the lot and the site office, on monthly plans, set up and removed by our crew.

Camera trailers that run on solar, plus cameras bolted to posts or the structure, with phone alerts and progress timelapse, billed month by month.

Towable diesel units from 20kW to 500kW and up, plus portable gas sets, with fuel delivery, cable and hookup for job sites and PSPS backup.

LED light towers in solar and diesel, balloon lights and interior string lighting for winter afternoons, night pours and dark interiors.

Rolling AC units sized 1 to 5 tons, ducted and swamp coolers, and winter heaters for site offices, curing, finish work and electrical rooms.

Why Marin builders call us

The hard part of temporary power is rarely the install. It is the permit counter, the PG&E queue and the narrow road up to the lot. We are a local electrical contractor, so we know which office handles each parcel, how far a drop can reach on a slope, and how to keep a site running through a fire-season shutoff. When something breaks, one call reaches the crew that can fix it.

How a job runs with us

1. Site walk and load list

We visit the site, look at access and the nearest PG&E pole or transformer, and go over the tools and equipment you plan to run.

2. Permit and PG&E filing

We pull the electrical permit from the right office and send the temporary service request to PG&E in the same week.

3. Install and inspection

In one working day we stand the pole, hang the meter socket and panel, drive the ground rods and then wait for the inspector. PG&E sets the meter once the green tag is in.

4. Support and removal

We service gear, deliver fuel and swap units during the job. When the permanent power is on, we pull everything and leave the site clean.

What temporary power costs in Marin

Bay Area rates sit above Southern California’s. Around Marin, a single-phase temp pole of 100A to 200A is usually priced at $1,800 to $4,500 installed, and a 400A three-phase service can climb from $6,000 to $14,000 or beyond. Utility fees come to you straight from PG&E.

These are typical ranges, and your quote depends on the site. Call for a site walk and a written number that covers install, rental and removal.

Quick answers for Marin builders

What does a temp power pole include?

A pole or pedestal, a meter base, a panel with GFCI receptacles, ground rods, the electrical permit, the PG&E request, the inspection and removal at the end.

How long until my site has power?

Most Marin jobs wait two to four weeks while the permit clears and PG&E schedules its crew. Our install takes a day, and a generator can cover the gap.

Do you work in unincorporated Marin?

Yes. Kentfield, Tam Valley, Lucas Valley and other county areas go through the Marin County Community Development Agency, and we file there too.

Can you help during a PSPS shutoff?

Yes. We rent standby generators and can set up a changeover at your temp panel so the site keeps working when PG&E turns the power off.

Will you remove the pole when the job is done?

Yes. Removal is part of the quote. Once the permanent service passes inspection, we pull the pole, panel and wire and patch the ground.

What are your hours?
